Upload file to datastore error: Failed to login into NFC server

Got this error while trying to upload some ISO’s to a datastore ISO folder via a VirtualCenter client.

While looking for causes I found these possibilities:

  • Not enough space in the datastore
  • Port 901/902 not open between the VI Client to the source of the file (and/or VC Server, could not find if that is also a factor)
  • DNS configuration for the host servers

As a possible solution I also found that restarting the VC Server service could help.

In this particular case it turned out that DNS was not configured for the host servers so adding the servers to the hosts file of the machine running the VI Client did the trick.

    I am running into this issue but it seems isolated to my SAN drives. I can browse the datastores of my local VMFS paritions. I have 3 nodes that see the same storage. All three seem to be experiencing this issue. I did a service mgmt-vmware restart on two nodes but I cannot contact the third in anywa except for the fact that it seems to be connected to VC. So my guess is that something funky is going on with the one node and is effecting the others. I will report back what I find

    Thanks for the tip. I was having this problem but turns out it is a DNS issue. After creating host file entries for the servers and vCenter I got right in. Thanks!

    I also found that logging in directly to the esx host rather than virtual center also worked!

    Try connect ESXi directly peer 2 peer to Your PC or laptop, do not use Switch. It’s work for me.

    Two points worked for me, after hours of errors:
    1) Make sure ‘LockDown Mode’ is disabled on the host. (Directly from the host console).
    2) If you are using a local user, ensure you give ‘Everyone’ temporary rights to the folder that you are copying to.
